With hope in our hearts, on the night of the winter solstice in 2018, we opened the doors to Crocodile Wine.
Working in bars and restaurants in New York, I developed a deep affection for natural wine — something that felt like much more than just a beverage. It’s a reflection of soil and sunlight, growers and winemakers, ancient minerals and changing weather patterns. I wanted to create a shop where people could nerd out about grapes and growers the same way I did about music in local record stores as a kid. After moving to Asheville, a short mountain drive from where Anjuli grew up, we found this spot downtown and fell in love with the alleyway entrance, the crank-open windows, and the warm afternoon light that filled the room.
The natural wine world has changed so much since then, and we are deeply grateful to everyone who chose to support a small independent shop along the way. To the regulars who came back week after week, the people who shared kind words online and in person, our wine club members, collaborators, and neighbors — thank you. Most of all, we’re grateful for the moments of connection shared over a bottle, a conversation, or a glass of wine.
After seven beautiful years, the season of Crocodile is coming to an end. We are proud of what we built and thankful for every person who walked through our doors.
Come see us this week and help us clear out the cellar.
